Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vs Competitors for Sale in Smithfield, RI
Both hybrids and crossovers are enjoying great popularity, and what better way to make the masses happy than to combine the two? With this crowd-pleasing mashup, the 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid stands at the forefront with its fuel efficiency, pricing, power, capability, and sleek design. Although Toyota’s reputation speaks for itself, other auto manufacturers have stepped up to give the 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid a fight for the biggest market share. Its strongest rivals include the debuting 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid as well as the Kia Niro and 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid. Here, we’ll compare and contrast their various attributes.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Every new Toyota comes with ToyotaCare, a comprehensive maintenance plan that covers normal factory-scheduled services for 2 years or 25,000 miles (whichever comes first) and provides 24-hour roadside assistance for 2 years (with no mileage limit). The no-cost maintenance plan provides things like maintenance reminders, engine oil and filter changes, tire rotations, and multi-point inspections, along with the peace of mind in knowing that the work is done by factory-trained technicians using genuine Toyota parts. The roadside assistance coverage handles battery jump starts, tire services, and emergency fuel deliveries. None of the aforementioned rivals offers a complimentary maintenance plan.
In addition, Toyota recently announced an enhanced battery warranty for all of its 2020 hybrid models, extending coverage to 10 years/150,000 miles (up from 8 years/100,000 miles). Again, the competitors compared fall short of Toyota’s coverage terms.
Performance and Convenience
It’s a tired assumption that hybrids don’t deliver on power aside from their generally punchy oomph from a standstill (thanks to the torque of the electric motor), but the 2020 Toyota RAV4 disproves that notion. Its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and pair of electric motors produce total system horsepower of 219. Falling short are the Honda CR-V Hybrid (143 hp), the Kia Niro (139 hp), and the Ford Escape (200 hp).
Despite the RAV4 Hybrid’s superlative power, it achieves fine fuel, returning an EPA-estimated 41 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway, beating the less-powerful CR-V Hybrid, which only gets 40 city/35 highway. Even though the Niro (52 city/49 highway) is rated higher and the Escape does slightly better with its around-town rating of 44 mpg, the 2020 RAV4 Hybrid comes with standard all-wheel drive (AWD). The Niro doesn’t offer AWD, and the Escape requires a costly upgrade to add it.
There are also more safety features in the base 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, thanks to the standard Toyota Safety Sense package of driver-assist technologies. While the Escape gets many standard driver aids as well, adaptive cruise control must be added as an expensive option. And for that all-important cargo room, the 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid comes through as the most spacious in the bunch, providing 69.8 cubic feet behind the front row, exceeding the CR-V Hybrid’s 68.7 cu. ft., the Niro’s 63.2 cu. ft., and the Escape’s 65.4 cu. ft.
