2025 Toyota GR Corolla Hero

Model year 2025 has brought some mechanical changes to the GR Corolla. Its turbocharged three-cylinder engine now produces more torque, while a retuned suspension with new rebound springs and revised rear components aims to improve cornering stability. Toyota has also redesigned the front bumper to accommodate additional cooling hardware, including an optional sub-radiator. Plus, a new eight-speed Gazoo Racing (GR) Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT) with paddle shifters joins the six-speed manual, bringing launch control capability to automatic-equipped editions.

The trim range has been expanded with the Premium Plus grade, which is differentiated by a forged carbon-fiber roof, a vented hood, and matte-black wheels. All grades now feature front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials as standard equipment, while versions with the automatic gearbox receive a dedicated transmission fluid cooler. Toyota adds value by including a complimentary one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association (NASA), a leading amateur motorsports organization that provides access to track days and performance driving instruction.

Trims and Powertrains

Toyota offers three versions of the fun-to-drive 2025 GR Corolla: Core, Premium, and Premium Plus. Their turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine puts out 300 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (an increase of 22 lb.-ft. over last year’s model). The standard all-wheel drivetrain (AWD) is managed through a rev-matching six-speed manual transmission or the optional eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters. In addition, the AWD system has three selectable torque distribution settings (front:rear): Normal (60:40), Track (60:40 – 30:70), and Gravel (50:50). The manual-equipped GR Corolla is EPA-rated for 21 mpg in town and 28 mpg on the open road. Fuel economy changes to 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway with the AT.

Standard Features

The Core comes with many performance-oriented features as standard equipment, including front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials, a sport-tuned suspension, functional fender and rear fascia aero vents, a color-keyed rear spoiler, widened front and rear fender flares, triple exhaust tips, and sport-style seats with fabric upholstery. This grade also has automatic climate control, LED exterior lighting with automatic headlights, LED fog lights, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, a 12.3-inch driver information display with GR start-up animation, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, aluminum sport pedals, red “GR” brake calipers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, power side mirrors with integrated turn signals, dual USB ports, and Michelin Pilot Sport tires on 18-inch alloy wheels.

The Premium trim is upgraded with heated Brin Naub suede/synthetic leather-trimmed front sport seats, a heated steering wheel, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The Premium Plus adds a carbon-fiber roof, a hood bulge and functional gloss-black air vents, red-stitched interior accents, and a head-up display.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is installed in every GR Corolla. This driver-assist suite consists of forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, a rear seat reminder, and road sign assist. The Premium and Premium Plus also have front and rear parking sensors. Every trim also comes with ten airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, and a rearview monitor with parking aid lines.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The GR Corolla’s infotainment hub is based within an 8-inch touchscreen. The system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth. The Core has a more basic six-speaker sound system, while the higher trims are outfitted with an eight-speaker JBL system. Access to Toyota Connected Services is standard in all three for a Wi-Fi hotspot, cloud-based navigation, emergency help, vehicle monitoring, remote features, and over-the-air (OTA) updates.
