Prius Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)
Model year 2026 marks the first time the Prius Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) – previously known as the Prius Prime – gets a Nightshade Edition. This on-trend appearance package gives the mid-range XSE a blacked-out look inside and out. It starts with trim-exclusive SofTex upholstery in black with gray stitching and continues with carbon-fiber interior detailing, black wheels, and distinctive badging and accents.
The Nightshade Edition is also the only trim available with Karashi gold paint, creating a striking contrast between the interior and exterior color schemes. Of course, the Prius PHEV still provides the fuel economy that defines its name, with fuel economy as high as 53 mpg and 127 estimated MPGe, plus up to 44 miles of all-electric driving range. The peppy hybrid powertrain continues to complement its efficiency with 220 combined horsepower, which takes the Prius PHEV from 0 to 60 in 6.6 seconds: quite an achievement by compact hybrid standards.
Like every new Toyota, the 2026 Prius PHEV is covered by the ToyotaCare no-cost maintenance plan for two years or 25,000 miles of regular, factory-scheduled maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, and multipoint inspections), plus two years (with unlimited mileage) of 24-hour roadside assistance.

Buyers of the 2026 Prius PHEV will choose from four trim grades: SE, XSE, Nightshade Edition, and XSE Premium. Their powertrain pairs a 2-liter four-cylinder engine (150 horsepower and 139 lb.-ft. of torque) with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT) and dual electric motors, resulting in a combined output of 220 horsepower. The Prius PHEV is exclusively front-wheel drive (FWD) and utilizes a 13.6-kWh lithium-ion battery to power the electric motors.
The SE is the most fuel-efficient, returning an EPA-estimated 53 mpg city, 51 mpg highway, and 127 MPGe, with an all-electric range of approximately 44 miles. The rest of the lineup achieves an estimated 50 city/47 highway mpg and 114 MPGe, with 39 miles of all-battery drive range. The drive-mode selector has EV (all-electric), HV (hybrid), and EV Auto (intelligently shifting between EV and HV) settings for optimized efficiency. Every 2026 Prius PHEV is also equipped with a dual-voltage charging cable that’s compatible with both Level 1 and Level 2 chargers. A charge indicator light and locking charge port are also included.
