In recent years, the compact crossover EV space has become highly competitive, which helps explain why Toyota reworked its first mass-market battery-electric vehicle last year. In addition to shortening its name (from bZ4X to bZ), Toyota refreshed the model’s exterior and improved its range and charging capabilities. These improvements live on for the 2027 model year, with a range of up to 314 miles and a standard North American Charging System (NACS) port that provides adapter-free access to Tesla Superchargers and a network of other compatible fast-charging stations. Its other attractive attributes are a spacious cabin, generous cargo capacity, and comprehensive driver-assistance technology – all of which help make the bZ well suited to daily use. There is also a more rugged variant, the bZ Woodland, which is ideal for light off-pavement use.
