2025 Toyota Prius

With its aerodynamic hatchback design and legendary gas-electric efficiency, the Prius offers an appealing combination of fuel economy, practicality, and comfort. The 2025 model year builds upon the successful formula established by the fifth-generation Prius, which introduced a new styling direction and a more engaging driving experience. For 2025, Toyota expands the Prius lineup with the addition of the Nightshade trim. Slotting between the XLE and Limited grades, the Nightshade adds a darkly aggressive look that gives an edge to the Prius’s eco-friendly image. Its hallmarks are blacked-out exterior accents, special wheels, and exclusive interior appointments that set it apart. This overview covers the hybrid-powered 2025 Toyota Prius; please see our additional page on the Prius Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV).

Trims and Powertrains

The 2025 Prius comes to you in a quartet of trim grades: LE, XLE, Nightshade, and Limited. Their 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine forms the powertrain with an 83-kW electric motor-generator. The net horsepower with standard front-wheel drive (FWD) is 194, rising to 196 with all-wheel drive (AWD), which is optional on all trims; AWD versions get a second motor (30 kW) on the rear axle. An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT) manages both drivetrains.

The LE with FWD achieves the best EPA-estimated fuel economy: 57 mpg in the city and 56 mpg on the highway. AWD changes that rating to 53 mpg around town and 54 mpg on the open road. Fuel economy for the other trims is 52 city/52 highway (FWD) or 49 city/50 highway (AWD). Depending on the trim, cargo space will range from 20.3 to 23.8 cubic feet.

Standard Features

The base LE comes with fabric upholstery, single-zone climate control, proximity keyless entry (driver’s door only), push-button start, LED exterior lighting with automatic headlamps, a tonneau cover for the cargo area, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, six-way manually adjustable front seats, heated power side-view mirrors, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, six USB ports, and 17-inch alloy wheels with covers. The XLE raises the stakes with SofTex leatherette upholstery, proximity keyless entry for the front doors and tailgate, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an eight-way power driver’s seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing variable intermittent windshield wipers, wireless device charging, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The XLE-based Nightshade gives the 2025 Prius racier looks thanks to trim-exclusive SofTex upholstery, black exterior accents, carbon-fiber trim on the dashboard, and 19-inch black-finished alloy wheels. The XLE and Nightshade can be optioned with a fixed glass roof and digital rearview mirror. At the top of the trim list, the Limited gets the fixed glass roof along with heated and ventilated front seats, a power liftback, a driver’s memory system, and a digital key. It’s also eligible for heated rear seats and a digital rearview mirror.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Systems

All Prius trims have Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which contains a pre-collision system (forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection), lane departure alert with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-tracing assist, adaptive cruise control, proactive driving assist (provides additional steering and braking support), road sign assist, and automatic high beams. Safe exit assist and a rear seat reminder are also standard. Front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking are optional on the LE and standard on the higher trims. A surround-view monitor and semi-autonomous parking are options for the Limited alone.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The lower trims have an 8-inch touchscreen, while the Limited comes standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen that’s optional for the XLE and Nightshade. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM satellite radio are standard with both systems. The default six-speaker sound system is upgraded to a JBL arrangement with eight speakers in the Limited. All trims have Wi-Fi hotspot capability and access to Toyota Connected Services for emergency assistance, Cloud Navigation, and remote locking/unlocking.
