Trim Levels, Powertrain, and Performance

This sports car gets off the line in 3 trim levels: the GR86, the GR86 Premium, and GR86 Hakone Edition. Each has a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated, 4-cylinder boxer-four mated to a 6-speed manual transmission; a 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with Dynamic Rev Management and paddle shifters is optional. The ‘25 GR86 powertrain generates 228 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. It has a top speed of 140 mph and can go from zero to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. According to the EPA’s official fuel economy findings, all three trims return 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

Every ‘25 GR86 has a rear-wheel drivetrain, a Torsen limited-slip differential, and vehicle stability control with Track Mode, a setting that can enhance braking, increase the slip angle, and optimize the throttle response—among other benefits. The framework for the base GR86 and the GR86 Premium is a MacPherson strut front suspension with a stabilizer bar, a multilink rear suspension with a member-mounted stabilizer bar, and GR circuit-tuned shock absorbers, iron front knuckles, and coil springs. The GR86 Hakone Edition upgrades to SACHS dampers on the front and rear suspensions and swaps out the standard braking system for high-performance Brembo brakes.

Standard Amenities

The entry-level GR86 has Michelin Primacy HP summer tires on 17-inch machined-finish alloy wheels, a tire pressure monitor, a black matrix grille with G-mesh inserts and functional air inlet ducts, front-wheel-arch air outlet vents, heated power side mirrors, remote keyless entry, dual chrome-tipped exhaust, and LED exterior lighting, including auto-leveling projector-style headlights. The cabin features front bucket seats with black side bolsters and fabric inserts, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, two USB charging ports with an auxiliary port, a one-piece folding rear seatback, and leather trim atop the gearshift boot, shift lever/knob, and parking brake handle.

The GR86 Premium adds two-stage heated front seats with leather-trimmed bolsters and Ultrasuede inserts, an aluminum footrest and sport pedals, 18-inch matte-black-painted alloy wheels and Performance Michelin Pilot Sport summer tires, a duckbill rear spoiler, and an adaptive front-lighting system. The design-driven GR86 Hakone Edition has 18-inch matte-bronze-painted alloy wheels with gloss-black lug nuts, driver and passenger-side puddle lights, cast-black interior ornamentation, a limited-production commemorative plaque, trim-exclusive floor mats, Hakone Edition badging, a shift lever/knob with matte-bronze striping, and tan contrast stitching on all cabin materials and equipment.

Advanced Safety Tech

The GR86 Active Safety Suite is a standard package of advanced safety features and driver-assistive technologies. All trims equipped with the manual gearbox have automatic high beams, lane departure alert with sway warning, adaptive cruise control, and lead vehicle start alert. With the available automatic transmission (AT), a pre-collision braking system with throttle management is added. The two higher trims (AT only) also get blind-spot detection. Rear parking sonar with reverse automatic braking is optional for all three trims.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The standard infotainment system in the ’25 GR86 has Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, an 8-inch color touchscreen, and a high-quality sound system. While the base trim has six speakers, the GR86 Premium and GR86 Hakone Edition add another pair of speakers and an amplifier. Every trim is set up for Wi-Fi hotspot access and Toyota connected services (Safety Connect, Service Connect, and Remote Connect with a 1-year trial subscription).
