The front-wheel-drive 2024 Prius Prime plug-in hybrid is offered in three grades: SE, XSE, and XSE Premium. Their efficient power source pairs a 220-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. The drivetrain is managed by an electronic continuously variable transmission (eCVT).
The SE trim can operate up to 44 miles in all-electric mode (this dips to 39 miles for the other trims). Recharging the battery takes about 4 hours with a 240-volt charger. The SE has an EPA-estimated combined MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) of 127 (114 MPGe for the XSE and XSE Premium) when only the battery power is used. As a hybrid, the Prius Prime SE is rated for 53 mpg in the city and 51 mpg on the highway (50 city/47 highway for the higher trims).
The SE includes proximity keyless entry, single-zone climate control, fabric upholstery, a SofTex-wrapped heated steering wheel, push-button start, LED exterior lighting, heated power side mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a cargo-area cover, and 17-inch alloy wheels with covers. The XSE is enhanced with heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, six USB ports (including two in the second row), and 19-inch alloy wheels. The XSE Premium expands on the XSE’s equipment with heated and ventilated front seats, a driver’s position-memory system, a power liftgate, and wireless device charging. A fixed-panel glass roof and a digital key (a smartphone app for vehicle access and operation without a physical key) are standard with the XSE Premium and available for the XSE. The options for the XSE Premium include a solar-charging roof and heated rear seats.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is installed on every 2024 Prius Prime. This system features pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, proactive driving assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, safe exit assist, road sign assist, and automatic high beams. Front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking are included with the XSE and XSE Premium and are optional on the SE. The XSE is available with a surround-view monitor and advanced parking assist.
The SE and XSE get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the XSE Premium boasts a 12.3-inch touchscreen (optional for the XSE). The standard multimedia features on all three trims are wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and an audio system: the XSE Premium is loaded with an eight-speaker JBL unit. All trims have access to Cloud Navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Toyota connected services (for emergency support and remote features).
