2019 Corolla

Overview

The 2019 Toyota Corolla Sedan is back with impressive standard features to provide drivers with the dependable transportation that they need, the advanced technology to keep them safe, and the device compatibility that they want for staying connected. The trim levels include the manual-transmission SE 6MT, along with the L, LE, LE Eco, SE, XLE, and XSE, all of which feature a continuously variable auto transmission. The LE Eco achieves the best EPA fuel economy rating at 40 highway/30 city, thanks to the Valvematic technology in its 1.8-liter 4-cylinder. The other trims will get as much as 36 highway miles to the gallon (and up to 28 around town). On the SE and XSE, a selector in the center console gives the driver a choice of Normal or Sport mode for enhanced performance; these sportier trims also have paddle shifters and a rear spoiler. Toyota builds upgraded features into the trim levels rather than offering traditional options packages, although the Entune Audio system upgrades contain bundled technology features. A moonroof is also available.

Passenger Comfort/Cargo Space

The Corolla sedan seats five, with a roomier back seat than its competitors, and has sufficient trunk room for their belongings. Some trim levels have heated front seats for the ultimate wintertime comfort. Air-conditioning is standard equipment, along with a dust and pollen filter; the higher trims have automatic climate control.

Safety

Safety is a top priority with Toyota, and the automaker has packed the Corolla with active safety technology. Most of this is contained within the Toyota Safety Sense Pre-Collision System, which integrates state-of-the-art features such as dynamic radar cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, and lane departure alert with steering assist. Stability and traction control are integrated with advanced braking technology in the Star Safety System. The Corolla is built with protective passive safety features such as crumple zones, high-tensile steel body panels, and side-impact beams. There are also eight airbags to protect occupants.

Technology

All Corolla sedan trims come with an array of standard technology features, highlighted by a rear-view camera and the Toyota Safety Sense Pre-Collison System for crash prevention. The Entune Audio system’s touchscreen integrates with your compatible smartphone to control communication, music, and apps (there are several trim-dependent available options for upgrading this system). A USB port and Bluetooth and iPod connectivity and control come standard.
