2019 Corolla Trims
Few cars have enjoyed great popularity as long as the Toyota Corolla has, with its decades of satisfied drivers who appreciate its reliability, low cost of ownership, and above-average resale value. For the 2019 model year, there are seven trims for Corolla shoppers to select from: the L, LE, LE Eco, XLE, SE, SE 6MT, and XSE. All but the Eco model are powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that pairs with either a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT.
The L and LE Trims
The base L comes with a good slate of standard features, highlighted by a backup camera with projected path feature and the Toyota Safety Sense active safety suite, which bundles a number of effective crash mitigation technologies, such as pre-collision alert with pedestrian detection, auto high beams, dynamic radar cruise control, and lane departure alert. It also offers Bi-LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, Bluetooth capability, power side mirrors, a pollen filter for the cabin, a tire pressure monitor, and a host of passive safety features, from front and rear crumple zones to high-strength body panels. Upgrades to the next-level trim, the LE, include heated exterior mirrors, 16-inch wheels, intermittent windshield wipers, auto climate control, deluxe cloth upholstery, and remote keyless entry.
The LE Eco differs from the other ’19 Corolla trims with features that increase its fuel economy, such as a rear spoiler, which makes it a tad more aerodynamic, and Valvematic technology, which provides a slight horsepower boost (8 additional hp above the standard Corolla engine). The LE Eco is rated by the EPA to achieve 30 mpg city/40 mpg highway, versus the other automatic trims’ rating of 28 city/36 highway.
The XLE receives multi-LED headlights with LED accent lights, combination taillights with LED reverse lights, SofTex upholstery with heated front row and eight-way power driver’s seat, metallic interior trim, a premium instrumentation cluster with chrome trim and expanded informational display (with outdoor temperature, average fuel economy, cruising range, and more), the Smart Key system, push-button start, and an upgraded Entune Audio Plus system.
SE and SE 6MT Trims
The two SE trims enjoy a bunch of appearance upgrades to contribute to their sporty personality. Among these are a chrome-tipped exhaust, a selector for Normal and Sport driving modes, SofTex seating with sport fabric inserts, a black mesh front grille, paddle shifters located on the leather-trimmed steering wheel, and a special instrumentation cluster with a tachometer and 3.5-inch display screen for performance information. The SE 6MT is the only Corolla trim with a six-speed manual gearbox (hence the 6MT name), which pleases those driving purists who prefer to shift.
This top-level trim receives the top-of-the-line Entune audio/entertainment/information system with an upgrade to the integrated navigation system. Its other prime amenities include a power tilt-and-slide moonroof.
