2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime for Sale in Smithfield, RI
The 2021 RAV4 Prime is not just Toyota’s first plug-in hybrid SUV, it’s also the quickest and highest-powered RAV4 to date. It also delivers an outstanding all-electric range of up to 42 miles. As with all plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (PHEVs), it uses up its battery power first and then switches to the gasoline engine for power, rather than continuously switching back and forth like a conventional gas-electric hybrid. The RAV4 Prime is plenty exciting, with its 302 total system horsepower and exceptional torque: it goes from 0 to 60 in 5.7 seconds, making it one zippy SUV. All-wheel drive is standard, as is a drive mode dial with settings for Normal, Sport, Eco, Trail, Auto EV/HV, and HV/EV charge hold. It has an 8-inch ground clearance (8.2 inches for the higher trim) and can even do a bit of towing (up to 2,500 pounds).
The 2021 RAV4 Prime’s lineup is simple, consisting of the SE and XSE. Some of the highlights on the SE include heated front seats, a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, roof rails, a smart key system with push-button start, five USB ports, and an infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM satellite radio (with a 3-month trial), and a six-speaker audio system. Buyers can opt for the Weather and Moonroof Package to get heated second-row outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers with de-icers, and a moonroof. The XSE adds simulated leather upholstery, a sunroof, paddle shifters, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an upgraded infotainment system with a 9-inch touchscreen, a wireless charging pad, and a JBL six-speaker sound system with a subwoofer and amplifier. The available Premium Package will add a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display with a 10-inch display, a hands-free liftgate, adaptive headlights, a fast charger, power-adjustable front seats with ventilation, driver’s seat memory, a digital rearview mirror that gives the driver rear visibility even with a packed cargo area, and a household-type power outlet in the cargo area.
Mechanical Features and Safety
Both trims come standard with a 2.5-liter dynamic force four-cylinder engine and three hybrid electric motors with SPORT, ECO, and NORMAL drive modes. As mentioned, this is a strong powertrain that produces 302 net horsepower and 165 lb.-ft. of torque. The RAV4 Prime has an 18.1-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that allows for up to 42 miles of all-electric driving. The 3.3 kW charger can charge the battery in 12 hours at 120 volts and 4.5 hours at 240 volts. The XSE has an available 6.6 kW charger that can charge the battery in as little as 2.5 hours.
Toyota continues its focus on vehicle safety with the 2021 RAV4 Prime. The vehicle received both a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a 2020 Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Both grades of the RAV4 Prime get Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which consists of a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, automatic high beams, and full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control and road sign assist. Also standard are an advanced eight-airbag system, the Star Safety System, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and Safety Connect, which includes emergency assistance, a stolen vehicle locator, and an automatic collision notification system. The XSE is also eligible for front and rear parking assist with automated braking.
