Trims, Powertrain, and Performance

The ’24 4Runner lineup is composed of seven trims: SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, and TRD Pro. They all deliver the expected Toyota performance through a hardy 4.0-liter V6 engine (270 hp and 278 lb.-ft. of torque) and a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. While rear-wheel drive is the default in most trims, the ’24 4Runner can be upgraded with four-wheel drive, which is standard in the TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, and TRD Pro. Towing capability reaches up to 5,000 pounds. According to the EPA, each ’24 4Runner returns an estimated 16 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.

Notable Equipment

The base SR5 gets practical elements like skid plates and roof rails, but it also mixes in a lot of convenience features: a power liftgate, heated side mirrors, LED exterior lighting fixtures, a windshield wiper de-icer, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 40/20/40-split folding rear seatback. The SR5 Premium is sweetened with heating for the side mirrors, steering wheel, and front seats. It also has a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, synthetic-leather upholstery, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink. The TRD Sport builds on the SR5 with synthetic-leather upholstery and an upgraded suspension. Meanwhile, the TRD Off-Road gets front and rear mud guards, Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, active traction control, and a locking rear differential. It also has fabric upholstery.

The TRD Off-Road Premium combines the luxuries of the SR5 Premium with the rugged features of the TRD Off-Road, while the Limited resembles the SR5 Premium but adds a moonroof, perforated leather upholstery, ventilated front seats with memory settings for the driver, dual-zone automatic climate control, and auto-on/off headlights. Topping the 4Runner lineup, the TRD Pro inherits features of the TRD Off-Road Premium and introduces a trim-specific roof rack, Fox high-performance shocks with rear remote reservoirs, TRD-tuned front springs, all-terrain tires, all-weather floor liners, and a Multi-Terrain Monitor with selectable front, side, and rear views. Many of those premium features are available as options for the lower trims. If you plan on seating more than five passengers, a 50/50-split folding third-row seat (which increases seating to seven) is available for all trims without “TRD” in their names.

Advanced Safety Features

The Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) system, installed in every ’24 4Runner trim, contains several advanced driving aids, such as a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, automatic high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control. Not only that, but blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard across the board. The SR5 Premium, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-Road Premium are eligible for a surround-view camera, which is standard in the Limited and TRD Pro.

Multimedia and Connectivity

All ’24 4Runner trims feature an 8-inch touchscreen that incorporates a range of infotainment must-haves. In each, the essential offerings include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, voice recognition, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 30-day free trial to a Wi-Fi hotspot. The SR5 Premium and above trims upgrade to HD Radio and integrated navigation (except for the TRD Off-Road, which only has HD Radio). The lower trims come with an eight-speaker audio system, while the Limited and TRD Pro boast a deluxe 15-speaker JBL unit. Some of those advanced multimedia features can be added to the lower trims.
