There’s a trim level for everyone, as Toyota presents six choices for the 2023 Toyota Camry: LE, SE, SE Nightshade, XLE, XSE, and TRD trim levels. A a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is in all but the TRD, putting out 203 hp and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The TRD moves up to a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 301 hp and 267 lb.-ft. of torque; the XLE and XSE are eligible to upgrade to that heftier powerplant. An eight-speed automatic is the sole transmission. Front-wheel drive comes standard, with all-wheel drive offered only in conjunction with the four-cylinder engine.
The EPA has rated the FWD with the 2.5-liter engine to achieve approximately 28 mpg around town and 39 mpg on the highway, dipping to 25 city/34 highway with AWD. The V6 XLE is rated for 22 city/33 highway, while the V6 XSE changes slightly to 22 city/32 highway. The TRD is officially rated to return 22 city/31 highway.
The 2023 Camry LE is stocked with bi-LED headlights (automatic on/off), LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, remote entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power driver’s seat, a 12V power outlet, a USB-C charge port, a drive-mode selector (with settings for Eco, Normal, and Sport), illuminated vanity mirrors, and a 60/40-split fold-down rear seatback with a center armrest. The SE adds heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, a color-keyed rear spoiler, a dual chrome exhaust, sport seats upholstered in SofTex with cloth inserts, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and side rocker panels. The SE Nightshade gets black exterior accents, bronze-finished wheels, and unique badges.
The XLE starts with the LE’s equipment list and adds dark gray exterior accents, full LED headlights, heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn-signal and blind-spot warning indicators, outside door handles with touch-sensor lock/unlock, Smart Key on the front doors and trunk, push-button start, wireless phone charging, a 7-inch multi-information display, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power passenger seat, ambient interior lighting, wood interior trim, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink. The second row has heat/AC ducts, adjustable headrests, and LED reading lights.
The XSE has a great blend with features found on both the XLE and the SE, accented by patterned metal trim on the inside and gloss-black exterior touches and a sport mesh grille on the outside. The TRD makes a clearly sporty statement with aerodynamic side skirts, a front splitter, red TRD badging, a rear diffuser with red pinstripes, TRD instrumentation with red accents, aluminum sport pedals, track-tuned front and rear coil springs, red-painted calipers on both the front and rear brakes, SofTex-trimmed seats with red seatbelts and stitching, and a black leather shift knob (also with red stitching) rigid underbody bracing, additional rear seat V-bracing, and active cornering assist technology. Aside from those trim-exclusive features, it has bi-LED headlights, matte black exterior elements, and automatic climate control.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is a standard feature on all trims, providing dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beams, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, and a rear seat reminder. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is an option for the LE, SE, and SE Nightshade and a standard feature on the three highest trim grades. The XLE and XSE are the only trims eligible for a panoramic view monitor and front and rear parking assist with automatic braking.
The standard 7-inch touchscreen infotainment setup is found in the LE, SE, SE Nightshade, and TRD. It has smartphone integration (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, SiriusXM satellite radio, and six speakers. The LE, SE, and SE Nightshade may upgrade to the 9-inch touchscreen that the XLE and XSE receive as standard. The XLE, XSE, and TRD are eligible for the available nine-speaker JBL sound system with nine speakers (it comes standard on the V6 LE and XSE); the XLE and XSE are eligible for navigation.
Toyota has assembled a few optional packages that add even more desirable amenities to the ’23 Camry. The Convenience Package is offered for the LE, SE, and SE Nightshade, adding Smart Key and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink. The Cold Weather Package can be added to the SE to make it winter-ready with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated side mirrors with blind-spot warning indicators. The XLE and XSE come with all of those wintertime features except for the heated steering wheel, so they can add it a la carte; they’re also eligible for the Driver Assist Package (a panoramic view monitor, a 10-inch head-up display, front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking, and ventilated front seats). The XLE and the V6-equipped XSE may be set up with dynamic navigation.
