Five versions of the front-wheel-drive 2023 Camry Hybrid are offered: LE, SE, SE Nightshade, XLE, and XSE. All are equipped with a powerful yet fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain that incorporates a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (e-CVT). The combined system output is 208 hp. The LE is the most fuel efficient of the pack, pulling off an EPA-rated 51 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway. With the other trims, fuel economy is officially estimated to be around 44 city/47 highway.
Buyers of the LE will enjoy automatic headlights, front door handles with touch-sensor lock and unlock, push-button start, automatic climate control (dual-zone), a 4.2-inch multi-information display, four selectable drive modes (EV, Eco, Normal, and Sport), a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 60/40-split rear seatback that includes a folding center armrest with cupholders. For added convenience, the LE also comes with an overhead console sunglasses holder and illuminated vanity mirrors. The SE has a sportier aesthetic with its mesh grille insert, side rocker panels, chrome exhaust, rear spoiler, and black wheels. Aside from that, it gains heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, SofTex synthetic leather-trimmed seats with fabric inserts, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SE Nightshade essentially acts as a cosmetic upgrade providing additional black exterior elements and signature matte-bronze wheels.
The XLE is like the LE, but with a series of more luxurious attributes: full LED headlights, heated side mirrors with turn-signal and blind-spot indicators, wireless phone charging, a 7-inch multi-information display, leather upholstery, multi-stage heated front seats with passenger power adjustability, wood interior décor, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, ambient interior lighting, and rear HVAC vents. The XSE blends the premier equipment of the XLE with the athletic attributes of the SE while swapping the wood interior trim from the XLE with distinctively patterned metal. Many of those superior amenities are optional for the lower trims via packages. Some of the other available features include a heated steering wheel, a 10-inch head-up display, and ventilated front seats (the last two of which are only offered for the XLE and XSE).
The Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ grouping of advanced driving aids is standard in the 2023 Camry Hybrid. This safety suite contains a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, and full-speed dynamic radar cruise control. Each trim also gets a rear-seat reminder, hill start assist, and Safety Connect, which includes emergency and roadside assistance, a stolen vehicle locator, and an automatic collision notification system. While blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard in the XLE and XSE, it’s optional for the LE, SE, and SE Nightshade. The XLE and XSE are the only trims that qualify for a panoramic view monitor and front and rear parking assist with automatic braking.
Staying connected in the ’23 Camry Hybrid is effortless thanks to its intuitively designed infotainment setup. In the LE, SE, and SE Nightshade, it consists of a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker audio system. The LE and SE can be upgraded with a 9-inch touchscreen, which is standard in the XLE and XSE. Unlike the other trims, the XLE and XSE are eligible for dynamic navigation and an exclusive JBL sound system with nine speakers. Each trim also receives a 12-volt power outlet, a USB-C charging port, and a basic USB charging/media port.
