2020 Toyota Yaris Hatchback in RI

While the sedan version of the subcompact Yaris remains relatively unchanged for the 2020 model year, the hatchback has been redesigned with more exciting features and an athletic facelift. This all-new upgrade makes it more akin to the Mazda 2, thanks to a number of elements it shares with that car, but it’s still the Toyota we’ve all come to know and love. This latest Yaris Hatchback is bold in looks and fun to drive, and if you really want it to stand out, you can choose one of its vibrant exterior colors in Stealth, Graphite, Pulse, Sapphire, Chromium, Frost, or Icicle.

It also boasts noteworthy fuel efficiency (up to 40 mpg highway) and an affordable price, making it perfect for budget-conscious drivers. As if that’s not enough, its compact and agile nature allows it to navigate urban areas especially well. The front-wheel-drive Yaris Hatchback will be offered in two well-outfitted trim levels: LE and XLE, both of which come with a 106 hp 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Comfort & Convenience

Each ’20 Yaris Hatchback comes with power-adjustable and heated side mirrors with LED turn signals, Smart Key entry with push-button ignition, fog lights, variable intermittent windshield wipers, a backup camera, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and a first aid kit. Cargo space is quite generous as well, with 15.9 cubic feet in the hatch area – nearly as much as you’d find in a midsize sedan’s trunk. With the top-of-the-line XLE trim, you’ll find a few more upscale items: leatherette seating surfaces in your choice of gray or black, automatic climate control, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and automatic LED headlamps, as well as a leather-wrapped wheel, shift knob, and parking brake handle.

Safety & Technology

On the multimedia front, each Yaris comes with a standard 7-inch touchscreen interface that can also be controlled by a remote commander knob if you aren’t as keen on the touchscreen feature. There’s also a six-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice recognition, and Bluetooth hands-free capability. Additionally, both trims come with a three-month trial of SiriusXM satellite radio, USB ports, an auxiliary input to ensure connectivity through all devices, and steering wheel controls for audio and phone.

For increased confidence on the road, the Yaris Hatchback includes some advanced active safety technology. Both the LE and XLE grades get a low-speed pre-collision safety system, which scans the road ahead for potential collisions, and if it detects one will activate audio and visual alerts for the driver. If the driver doesn’t hit the brakes, then the system will automatically activate them. Other safety features include dynamic stability control, traction control, anti-lock braking, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and brake override. Both trims also come with ToyotaCare, a no-cost maintenance plan with 24-hour roadside assistance.
