2019 Toyota Land Cruiser
The Toyota Land Cruiser has a long and proud history as one of the original sport utility vehicles, long before that phrase was ever coined. It debuted in 1951, making it the longest-running Toyota model, as well as one with a dedicated following of enthusiastic drivers – and even collectors.
The 2019 Land Cruiser is appointed like a luxury vehicle, delivering a smooth and comfortable ride, yet it will readily leave the pavement to take on rough terrain. The 2019 Land Cruiser won the SmartChoice awards by IntelliChoice for both maintenance costs and retained value in the luxury utility category. It’s powered by a 5.7-liter 381 horsepower V8 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission; an enhanced four-wheel drive system transmission also comes standard. This spacious SUV has room for eight adults, or 82 cubic feet of cargo space with the middle and rear seats folded down.
Toyota has streamlined the Land Cruiser into a single trim level with a vast array of standard features, such as a power tilt/slide moonroof with sun shade, aluminum running boards, a rear spoiler, a trailer hitch receiver, and a power liftgate. Cruise control, power folding mirrors, and LED projector-beam headlights are also standard. Inside, the standard features include four-zone automatic climate control, multi-stage heated and ventilated front seats with seatback pockets, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with three-position memory and power lumbar support, and a heated second-row seat that splits 40/20/40 and slides, reclines, folds, and tumbles forward for versatility in carrying cargo. The third-row seat has 50/50 split, fold-down capability with folding headrests. One of the few optional features is the rear-seat entertainment system with two 11.6” display screens, RCA jacks, HDMI input, a remote control, and two sets of wireless headphones.
The Land Cruiser is a true 4×4, with power delivered full-time to all four wheels. Its maximum towing capacity is 8,100 pounds, and it can handle payload of up to 1,570 pounds. The Toyota Kinetic Dynamic Suspension system optimally adjusts the front and rear stabilizers. The Toyota Crawl Control feature is designed for low-speed off-road driving, adjusting each wheel’s output to the terrain, while allowing the driver to take their foot off the gas and brake pedals and concentrate on steering precisely. The Multi-Terrain Select System lets you further tailor the vehicle’s performance, as you choose from among five terrain modes. All of these features combine to deliver the outstanding off-road capabilities that the Land Cruiser has always been praised for.
Safety & Technology
Safety has always been important to Toyota. As a true SUV, the Land Cruiser is built on a sturdy truck frame with the height to give you a full view of the road ahead. The difference between the classic Land Cruiser of decades past and today’s model is the inclusion of state-of-the-art active safety technology. The Toyota Safety Sense driver-assist suite consists of lane departure alert with sway warning, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control help to keep the driver aware of potential obstacles to make collisions less likely. Also standard are a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, hill start assist, and the Star Safety System, which bundles traction control, stability control, multi-terrain specific anti-lock brakes, and other braking technologies.
The Land Cruiser comes standard with Toyota’s innovative technology for entertainment and connectivity. The Entune Premium system is highlighted by a 14-speaker premium JBL audio system that also features voice recognition control, full smartphone app integration, Siri Eyes Free, iPod connectivity, Bluetooth capabilities, and satellite and HD radio. In addition, there is a CD player, integrated GPS navigation, real-time traffic and weather information, and wireless device charging. There is an enhanced multi-terrain monitor that allows you to choose front, rear, or side views.
